On Monday night in Houston, Minnesota Timberwolves’ forward Michael Beasley found himself in a bit of an unfamiliar role. . .coming off of the bench. If tonight’s results are any indication, that might not be the worst thing Rick Adelman could do.

Beasley led the Wolves in scoring on Monday night, pouring in 34 points while hitting 10-of-14 shots from the field and going a perfect 12-of-12 from the line in Minnesota’s 120-108 victory over the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. The victory marked just the second time the Timberwolves have beaten the Rockets in their last 18 meetings.

The 120 points is a high scoring mark on this season for the Timberwolves, eclipsing the 106 they put up in a victory over the San Antonio Spurs on January 2.

Minnesota trailed going into halftime of this one by a score of 56-54, but started the second half on a 12-4 run to give themselves a 66-60 lead. After the Rockets fought back to tie the game at 68, the Timberwolves went on a 19-6 run, and were really never threatened after that point.

In addition to Beasley’s big night, Kevin Love chipped in with 29 points and seven rebounds. Ricky Rubio did what Ricky Rubio does, coming up just short of a triple-double by putting up 18 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds. The Rockets were paced by guard Kevin Martin, who scored 29 points. He didn’t get much support, however, as none of his teammates scored more than 13.

Minnesota’s victory in coach Rick Adelman’s return to Houston once again puts them within one game of the .500 mark at 10-11. They also collected their fifth road victory of the season, matching the total that they’ve put up in each of the past two seasons in just nine games.

Minnesota will once again try to get to that elusive .500 mark on Wednesday, when they return to the Target Center to host the Indiana Pacers.

HOUSTON (AP) — Michael Beasley scored 34 points, Ricky Rubio had 18 points and 11 assists and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Rockets 120-108 on Monday night in Rick Adelman’s return to Houston.

Kevin Love had 29 points for the Timberwolves, who blew open a close game with 42 points in the third for their highest scoring quarter this season. Minnesota shot a season-best 58 percent (43 of 74) from the field and eclipsed its previous high point total for the season by 14.

Kevin Martin scored 29 points after missing two games with inflammation in his right heel. The Rockets lost for only the second time in 11 games.

Adelman went 193-135 in four seasons with Houston, and turned down the team’s offer to renew his contract after last season.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kevin Martin scored 31 points to lead the Houston Rockets to their seventh straight victory, 107-92 over Minnesota on Monday night in coach Kevin McHale’s first game back at Target Center since he was fired by the Timberwolves in 2009.

Kyle Lowry had 16 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds and Samuel Dalembert grabbed 15 rebounds for the Rockets, who put the game away with a 19-1 run bridging the third and fourth quarters.

Kevin Love had 39 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who committed 10 turnovers in the fourth quarter in coach Rick Adelman’s first game against the team he spent the last four seasons coaching.

Ricky Rubio had 12 assists for Minnesota, but the rookie scored just six points on 2-for-10 shooting and turned the ball over five times.

After trailing throughout every minute of the first three quarters, the Minnesota Timberwolves (6-8) came back to beat the Detroit Pistons (3-12) by a score of 93-85 at the Target Center on Wednesday night.

The Timberwolves started the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run to tie the game 71-71, setting the tone for a dominant 29-14 fourth quarter.

Kevin Love led the Timberwolves with 20 points, and his 17 rebounds made certain that he continued his season-long streak of being the top rebounder in every game he has played in.

Ricky Rubio meanwhile finished just 1-9 shooting from the field but managed to total 9 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals.

Tayshaun Prince scored a season-high 29 points to lead the Pistons.

Minnesota now goes on the road for two games in a row, starting with a date with the Los Angeles Clippers in a game slated to start at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a matchup with the Utah Jazz the next night, Saturday, at 9:00 p.m. eastern.

The Ivan Johnson feel good story continues as he converted the game clinching free throws with just 4.6 seconds remaining to help Atlanta to a 93-91 win over the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves. Atlanta trailed by as many as 18 points in the game before rattling off a big comeback.

Joe Johnson scored eight of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to help Atlanta complete the comeback but gave credit to the Hawks defense against Minnesota’s Kevin Love in the fourth quarter as the biggest reason for the victory.

“We started focusing in on him and doubling him a lot more and trying to make it tough for him, but he’s a load down there, man,” Johnson said. “He did a great job of keeping them in the ballgame. He’s a hell of a player.”

Jeff Teague added support for Johnson finishing with 20 points, 10 assists and three steals. Despite six turnovers, Teague held his own in his matchup with rookie sensation Ricky Rubio. Ivan Johnson was just 1-4 from the field but converted 8-8 free throw attempts to finish with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson grabbed an offensive board in the games final seconds that set up his game clinching attempts. Willie Green scored all 10 of his points off the bench in the decisive fourth quarter.

Kevin Love led Minnesota with game-highs of 30 points and 13 rebounds. However, he went 0-5 from the field in the fourth quarter including a three-point attempt in the game’s closing seconds. Ricky Rubio got the start for Rick Adelman’s club and didn’t disappoint finishing with 18 points, 12 assists and five steals. Wayne Ellington scored nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter for the Timberwolves.
